Dade took its name from Francis L. Dade, a major during Second Seminole War who was killed in battle by Seminole Indians. The word ‘Miami’ was added to the name after the famed city to add more recognition, however, the root word came from ‘Mayaimis’ the natives who lived there in 17th and 18th century, but were effectively driven to the point of extinction. However, none of its disturbing history is relevant today, because people only know it’s breathtakingly beautiful landscape, lined with palm trees, tall skyscrapers, vivid-blue beaches, glistening golden sands and its ethnic mix of people; reasons enough to make this county a repeat vacation destination for many!
